Crystal Palace Have Been Dealt Setbacks With Injuries To Michael Olise And Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace faces a blow with key central defender Marc Guehi set to miss the next few weeks after being forced off in the first half at the Amex over the weekend.

Manager Roy Hodgson’s job security remains under threat following a heavy defeat to the club’s rivals, plunging them into a relegation battle.

Palace currently occupies 14th place, with just a five-point cushion above the relegation zone, amid a run of poor form that has seen them win only two of their last 14 games across all competitions.

During the weekend match, Michael Olise was brought on at half-time while the team trailed 3-0, only to last nine minutes before being replaced due to a recurring hamstring issue.

Hodgson faced criticism for involving a player not fully fit, especially given the unfavorable scoreline.

Reports suggest Olise could face around six to eight weeks on the sidelines, with concerns that his recovery period might extend even further, potentially ruling him out until the latter stages of the season.

Olise’s significance was evident in their recent victory over Sheffield United, where he scored and provided two assists.

However, he was withdrawn after 68 minutes due to discomfort in his hamstring, casting doubt over his fitness for the Brighton game, although he made the bench.

Hodgson refuted suggestions that he bears responsibility for Olise’s setback, stating, “I was told he couldn’t start the game…Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball.”

Olise has featured sparingly for Palace this season, with his only start in 2024 coming in the Sheffield United match.

Additionally, there’s further disappointment for Palace fans as an update on Guehi’s injury reveals he suffered a knee hyperextension. While less severe than Olise’s setback, Guehi is still expected to miss several weeks.

Palace faces Chelsea next Monday at Selhurst Park, potentially without key player Eberechi Eze, who is doubtful.
